The story of Hunt Energy begins not with a startup, but with a legacy. Founded in 1934 by H.L. Hunt, Hunt Oil Company started as a family-owned exploration firm in East Texas. Decades later, the family's energy ambitions expanded under the leadership of Hunter Hunt, who now serves as Chairman and CEO of Hunt Energy. Recognizing the shifting energy landscape, Hunter Hunt established Hunt Power in 1998 to pursue opportunities in the electric and gas utility infrastructure sectors. This set the stage for Hunt Energy Enterprises, the venture and technology-focused arm of the business. Hunt Energy Enterprises was created to invest in and partner with entrepreneurs on disruptive technologies in both conventional and clean energy. Rather than a single product, its business is building new businesses, leveraging the deep operational, regulatory, and financial expertise of the broader Hunt organization. A key moment came in August 2025, when Hunt Energy announced a major strategic collaboration with Caterpillar Inc. The partnership aims to develop and deliver up to 1 gigawatt of power generation capacity for data centers across North America, a critical infrastructure need. This move signaled a significant play into the power demands of the digital age, combining Hunt's skill in energy project development with Caterpillar's industrial might. As a private entity, Hunt Energy Enterprises continues to operate without public funding, relying on its own capital and strategic partnerships to scale its ventures.
