HPCL Renewable & Green Energy
Renewable energy production and biofuels development.
HPCL Renewable & Green Energy Ltd. (HPRGEL) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (HPCL), a Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise. Incorporated on March 9, 2023, HPRGEL was established to consolidate and manage HPCL's green energy portfolio. The formation of this subsidiary is a strategic move by HPCL to expand its presence in the renewable energy sector, aligning with India's goals for a sustainable energy future.
The company's primary focus is on the production of biofuels, including ethanol and compressed biogas (CBG), from agricultural waste and other biomass sources. HPRGEL is developing multiple projects across India, such as a 2G Ethanol plant in Bathinda, Punjab, which will utilize paddy straw to produce ethanol. It is also setting up compressed biogas plants in various locations, including one in Badaun, Uttar Pradesh, that will process 100 tonnes of rice straw per day. These initiatives aim to convert waste into valuable energy resources, reduce stubble burning, and contribute to the nation's energy security. The business model involves the entire value chain of renewable energy projects, from development and commissioning to operation.
