Homie.mx, established in 2015, operates as a digital platform within Mexico's proptech sector, designed to streamline the residential rental process for both tenants and landlords. The company was co-founded by Jordi Greenham, a serial entrepreneur with a background in technology. Homie addresses significant friction in the Mexican rental market by digitizing property searches, visit scheduling, and online applications. A key element of its value proposition is eliminating the traditional requirement for a guarantor or co-signer, a major hurdle for many prospective renters in Mexico.

The company's business model generates revenue from multiple streams. For property owners, Homie offers services that guarantee on-time rent payments and provide legal protection, charging a commission for the duration of the lease. For tenants, the platform simplifies the search and application process, charging fees for application analysis and for its "Respaldo Homie" service, which replaces the need for a traditional guarantor. This dual-sided approach serves both individuals seeking housing and property owners looking for reliable tenants and consistent income. The platform facilitates the entire rental lifecycle, from listing and searching to booking and online payments.

Since its inception, Homie has expanded its operations significantly. After securing a $1.3 million seed round in 2018, the company raised a notable $7 million in 2019, led by Equity International, the investment firm founded by Sam Zell. This funding was aimed at enhancing its digital platform and increasing the inventory of properties. In a strategic move to enter the Chilean market, Homie acquired "Rent," a vertical of the fintech company Capitalizarme, in October 2022. This marked its first international expansion and formed a strategic partnership, with Capitalizarme taking an equity stake in Homie. The current CEO is Francisco Andragnes.
