Henos Energy, founded in 2021 by Henry Osei Yaw, is a Ghanaian tech-based Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) marketing and distribution company. It is the first company licensed under the National Petroleum Authority's (NPA) Cylinder Recirculation Model (CRM), which aims to increase the accessibility and affordability of clean cooking fuel. The company's business model addresses the challenge of high upfront costs for consumers by decentralizing the LPG supply chain and implementing technology-driven solutions.
Henos Energy operates on a multi-pronged service model. Its core offering is the "Swap N Go" service, which allows customers to exchange empty LPG cylinders for full ones at various exchange points. These points are strategically located at the forecourts of partner oil marketing companies—such as Goil, Total, and Star Oil—and within communities to ensure convenience. To further enhance accessibility, Henos offers last-mile delivery services, enabling customers to order LPG through a mobile app or a USSD short code (*899*89#) for delivery to their homes. The company also provides bulk LPG delivery for commercial clients and operates Autogas services for LPG-powered vehicles.
Through its affiliate, EaziGas, Henos is developing a pay-as-you-go technology platform. This system is designed to counter the practice of "tot-filling," where consumers purchase small, inefficient amounts of gas due to budget constraints, by allowing them to buy LPG in smaller, more affordable quantities. By focusing on replacing traditional fuels like charcoal and wood, Henos Energy aims to reduce deforestation and improve health outcomes, particularly for women and children who are disproportionately affected by indoor air pollution.
