Heliocentris Energy Solutions AG was a German company established in 1995, specializing in stationary hybrid power solutions and educational fuel cell systems. The firm initially focused on providing didactic fuel cell systems for educational and training purposes, offering a range of products from model cars to comprehensive lab setups for renewable energy education. These educational products included coursework and instructor guides for various levels, enabling hands-on learning about fuel cells, batteries, and solar and wind power.
Over the years, Heliocentris expanded its operational scope into industrial energy solutions. A significant milestone was the 2011 acquisition of P21 GmbH, which broadened its portfolio to include energy solutions for the telecommunications sector. This was followed by the acquisition of FutureE Fuel Cell Solutions GmbH in 2014, a provider of stationary fuel cell systems. The company's business model encompassed both the development and sale of these educational training systems and the provision of energy storage and management solutions for off-grid and unreliable grid areas. Its industrial offerings were designed to provide reliable power to clients such as telecom operators, government entities, and industrial customers.
The company was publicly traded, listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange's Entry Standard from June 2006 and later on the Prime Standard from May 2015 to June 2017. Despite its expansion and a revenue peak of €22.1 million in 2015, the company faced significant financial challenges. In October 2016, Heliocentris filed for insolvency due to a liquidity shortfall. Insolvency proceedings were officially opened in December 2016, leading to the liquidation of the company and the delisting of its stock in early 2020. While the parent company was dissolved, the Heliocentris Academia brand and its educational products appear to continue, focusing on providing renewable energy training systems.
