Helical IT Solutions Private Limited, established in 2012, is a specialized IT services and solutions provider headquartered in Hyderabad, India. The company was founded by Nikhilesh Tiwari and Nitin Sahu, who were school friends and later reconnected during their MBA program. Their entrepreneurial journey began with two unsuccessful ventures in edtech and healthtech, which ultimately led them back to their core expertise in data. Leveraging Sahu's deep experience in the Business Intelligence (BI) and data warehousing sector from his time at Wipro, and Tiwari's background in sales and operations, they launched Helical IT. The firm was founded with a focus on open-source data warehousing and BI solutions. Within seven months of starting full-time operations in November 2012, the company secured a seed funding round of approximately $46.6K in May 2013.

The company's business model centers on providing comprehensive data services and proprietary software to a diverse client base that includes Fortune 500 companies, government entities, and small to medium-sized enterprises. A significant milestone for Helical IT Solutions was the development and launch of its own open-source BI product, Helical Insight, in 2016. This platform was created to address the limitations the founders observed in existing BI tools. Helical Insight is a browser-based BI framework that allows for extensive customization and features a drag-and-drop interface, multi-tenancy, and API-driven architecture. A key differentiator is its "Instant BI" capability, which integrates machine learning and natural language processing, enabling non-technical users to perform complex data queries through a simple search interface. The product is offered in both a free and a paid enterprise version, positioning it as a cost-effective alternative to other proprietary BI software.
