HEALTHYMIZE

Healthymize, founded in Haifa, Israel, in 2016, developed a technology to transform smart devices into continuous health monitors. The company originated from a 2015 hackathon at the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, where co-founders Dr. Shady Hassan and Daniel Aronovich first met. At the time, Dr. Hassan was a physician at Carmel Hospital, and Aronovich was a Ph.D. student in electrical engineering. Dr. Hassan observed a connection between the voice patterns and symptoms of patients with voice-affecting diseases like COPD, which formed the core concept for the company.

Operating in the digital health and telemedicine market, Healthymize provided a platform that utilized artificial intelligence to analyze voice and breathing patterns from everyday phone calls or interactions with smart devices. This technology was designed for the remote monitoring of patients with chronic conditions such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), heart failure, and certain mental health disorders. The system would detect abnormalities that could signal a flare-up, alerting patients, their families, and medical teams to enable early intervention and potentially prevent hospitalization. The software was cloud-hosted and could be integrated into any device with a microphone, including smartphones, tablets, and virtual home assistants. For healthcare providers, the system offered a dashboard that categorized patients by health status, facilitating efficient chronic care management.

A significant milestone for Healthymize was winning the 2017 mHealth Startup Competition. In late 2019, Healthymize merged with Beyond Verbal, another Israeli voice-enabled AI startup, to form Vocalis Health. The merger was followed by a $9 million funding round led by aMoon venture capital fund. This strategic consolidation aimed to combine their datasets and expertise to become a leader in the vocal biomarkers field, expanding their focus to include congestive heart failure, sleep apnea, and neurological disorders. Following the merger, Dr. Shady Hassan became the Chief Medical Officer and COO of the new entity, Vocalis Health.
