In 1978, a company named Zoster was founded in Spain, laying the groundwork for what would become a specialized player in natural ingredients. A decade later, it was incorporated into Ferrer HealthTech, setting its focus on extracting and purifying bioflavonoids from citrus and producing derivatives of vitamin B12. This core business supplied active ingredients for the pharmaceutical, food, and animal nutrition industries. The company's journey took a significant turn in late 2019 when Ferrer, as part of a strategic shift, divested the business. The global private equity firm, The Riverside Company, acquired this division, officially naming it HealthTech BioActives, or HTBA. This transaction marked the beginning of a new chapter for the 140 employees and its manufacturing facilities. Under Riverside's ownership, HTBA focused on growth, nearly doubling its workforce and significantly increasing manufacturing capacity. A key development was the opening of a US subsidiary in Cincinnati, Ohio, to better serve the North American market. By the end of this period, the company's annual revenue had grown 66% to 80 million Euros. In early 2025, another major event occurred when The Riverside Company agreed to sell HTBA to Miura Partners, a private equity firm, in a deal valued between €250 and €300 million. This most recent acquisition, supported by Miura and other partners like Keyhaven Capital, is intended to further drive HTBA's growth and solidify its position as a global leader in its niche market.
