Healthjump operates as a cloud-based data management platform focused on resolving data liquidity challenges within the healthcare sector by simplifying the extraction and normalization of electronic health record (EHR) data. The company was conceived at the 2013 Health Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) conference and officially founded that same year by Martin Aboitiz, Cliff Cavanaugh, Jim Rowland, Shanti Aboitiz, and Mark Ribeiro de Sa. The initial concept, born from personal experiences with disconnected healthcare data, was to provide patients with better access to their medical records. Co-founder Cliff Cavanaugh was motivated by his mother's struggles with a rare chronic condition, which involved repetitive medical tests due to a lack of data sharing between specialists.

Initially, Healthjump developed a patient portal that connected patients with their physicians and aggregated their health data from various EHR systems. Observing that the underlying data extraction technology was a powerful solution for interoperability issues, the company pivoted. The business model evolved to serve digital health companies, value-based care organizations, Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs), large medical practices, and hospital systems. These clients utilize Healthjump's platform to pull standardized EHR data from numerous practices, which helps in assessing the quality, cost, and outcomes of care. The company's platform, which is HITRUST certified, is designed for a straightforward, thirty-minute installation process to alleviate the IT burden for healthcare providers.

The core of Healthjump's offering is its data interoperability platform that automates access to EHR data for use in various applications such as patient engagement tools, quality measures reporting, and population health management. Its software includes 'jumpSTART', which connects to health IT systems to extract data, and 'jumpCONNECT', a data warehouse that normalizes the data and makes it accessible via an API or custom outputs. This allows for a unified view of patient data from disparate sources. Over its history, the company raised a total of $2.17M in funding over three seed rounds. In November 2015, Healthjump acquired DataTrade Solutions, a health IT service company. A significant milestone occurred in September 2023, when Healthjump was acquired by Datavant, a prominent health data exchange provider, with the combined entity operating under the Datavant name.
