Harvy is an agritech company focused on restructuring the local food supply chain to benefit farmers. The Paris-based firm provides an online platform that empowers agricultural producers to manage their own distribution and logistics, thereby bypassing traditional intermediaries. This model addresses the significant issue of delivery costs, which can account for up to half the price of locally sourced fruits and vegetables, and aims to restore profit margins to the farmers themselves.
The concept for Harvy emerged from an Antler residency in Paris in 2023, where the French co-founders, Louis Debusschere and James Terrien, first met. Both founders bring relevant experience to the venture; Debusschere grew up on a farm before working in sales and marketing, while Terrien had previously co-founded a B2C marketplace connecting farmers with consumers. This shared background provides them with a direct understanding of the economic pressures faced by farmers. As Debusschere stated, "Having grown up on a farm, I have seen the unfair balance of power between farmers and intermediaries. Harvy is designed to level the playing field...".
The company's platform functions as a tool for mutualization. Farmers can either propose their own delivery routes or join existing ones created by others in the community. They list their available products, prices, and quantities for the week, contributing to a shared, comprehensive product catalog. This allows a group of producers to collectively offer a more diverse range of products to professional clients like restaurants and retailers. By consolidating shipments, a single truck can handle deliveries for multiple farms, significantly streamlining the process. The business model centers on creating a decentralized, farmer-owned distribution system. In May 2024, Harvy secured €1 million in a pre-seed funding round from investors including Antler, Tivoli Capital, and the family office FBFC, to further develop its technology.
