Enviri

The story of Enviri begins long before its current name, starting in 1853 when a group of entrepreneurs founded the Harrisburg Car Manufacturing Company to serve the growing U.S. railroad system. The company evolved over the next century, changing its name to Harrisburg Steel Corporation in 1935 to reflect its diversified manufacturing. A pivotal moment arrived in 1956 when, after a series of acquisitions, the company was officially formed as Harsco Corporation and began trading on the New York Stock Exchange. This marked the start of a major expansion period, as Harsco grew into a multinational, diversified industrial services company with operations spanning from metals and minerals to railway maintenance. Decades later, the company initiated a significant transformation. Starting around 2018, Harsco began to strategically pivot towards becoming a single-thesis environmental solutions company. This strategy was accelerated by key acquisitions, including Clean Earth in 2019 and the Environmental Solutions business from Stericycle in 2020. These moves solidified the company's focus on managing waste, recycling, and providing services for complex environmental challenges. This transformation culminated in June 2023, when Harsco Corporation officially rebranded as Enviri. The new name was chosen to better represent its singular focus on environmental services and solutions, moving on from its industrial past. Today, under the leadership of Chairman and CEO F. Nicholas Grasberger, Enviri operates globally through its key divisions—Harsco Environmental, Clean Earth, and Harsco Rail—tackling environmental issues for major industries.
