Gongda Satellite Technology, also known as Hitsat, is a commercial space company spun out of the Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT). The company was established in December 2020 as a platform to commercialize the satellite technology achievements of HIT. It was initiated by a team from the university's Satellite Technology Research Institute, reportedly led by academician Cao Xibin. Gongda Satellite specializes in providing comprehensive solutions for the entire satellite development process, from design and constellation planning to mass production, assembly, integration, testing (AIT), and in-orbit delivery services.
The firm serves the commercial aerospace sector by offering short-cycle, low-cost, and high-reliability satellite products. Its business model focuses on the batch production of satellites, with a manufacturing base capable of producing 180 satellites annually in the 500 kg class. The company has developed a range of standardized satellite platforms (including panel, module, and integral body types) that cover communications, navigation, remote sensing, and deep space applications. By leveraging technologies like "5G + smart manufacturing," the company has established a flexible and digital satellite production line. As of late 2024, Gongda Satellite had successfully completed 10 launch missions, deploying 24 satellites into orbit.
Gongda Satellite has received significant recognition, including being named a national-level "little giant" enterprise, a designation for specialized and innovative small and medium-sized enterprises in China. It has also secured various provincial-level accolades for its R&D and technology centers and holds certifications for quality and intellectual property management systems.
