In the early 1960s, the story of Golden Tulip began in the Netherlands, founded by Kees Kerkkamp. It started when several Dutch hotels merged, creating what became the largest hotel chain in the country at the time. This initial consolidation set the stage for a journey of steady global expansion. The company focused on providing international standards while preserving a local feel, operating under brands like Golden Tulip for four-star hotels and Tulip Inn for the three-star category. A significant chapter in the company's history was its acquisition by Starwood Capital Group in 2009. This move integrated Golden Tulip into Starwood's Louvre Hotels Group, creating a powerful alliance in the hospitality industry. The combination was complementary, merging Golden Tulip's geographic and market strengths with Louvre's portfolio, which included brands like Campanile and Kyriad. This acquisition was seen as a way to safeguard and grow the Golden Tulip brands. In 2015, another major event occurred when Louvre Hotels Group, and by extension Golden Tulip, was acquired by the Chinese group Jin Jiang International. This placed Golden Tulip under the umbrella of one of the world's largest hospitality groups, providing substantial support for further development and benefiting from Jin Jiang's extensive network and resources.
