GodTube is a digital video platform focused on Christian and family-friendly content. Launched in 2007 by co-founders Christopher Wyatt, Jason Martell, Lloyd Chartrand, and Mike Miller, the site experienced rapid initial growth, reportedly securing $30 million in funding from GLG Partners within its first year. One of the founders, Chris Wyatt, previously worked as an executive producer at CBS and started the platform after observing a decline in traditional church attendance. The venture's initial business model included advertising revenue from family-friendly brands and subscription fees from churches using a live-streaming service called Godcaster.
The company has undergone significant structural changes throughout its history. In 2009, GodTube was relaunched under the name Tangle.com to broaden its appeal and incorporate social networking features. This pivot was short-lived, and by April 2010, GodTube and Tangle were separated into distinct entities again. Shortly thereafter, in June 2010, both GodTube.com and Tangle.com were acquired by Salem Web Network, a subsidiary of Salem Communications. This acquisition placed GodTube within a large portfolio of faith-based media properties, solidifying its market position. Tangle.com was discontinued later that year.
Under the ownership of Salem Media Group, GodTube operates as a video-sharing platform where users can upload their own content and view professionally produced videos. The platform's revenue is primarily generated through advertising. It offers a wide range of content categories, including music videos, comedy, sermons, and inspirational clips, all moderated to align with Christian values. GodTube has established exclusive partnerships with major Christian music labels like Universal Music Group and Provident Label Group to feature their artists. In 2025, the company expanded its brand by launching GodTube Music, a dedicated platform for Christian music news, artist interviews, and exclusive performances, further targeting the Christian music enthusiast demographic.
