GO Launcher is a mobile application that allows users to personalize the home screen of their Android devices. Developed by the GO Launcher Dev Team, which is part of China-based Sungy Mobile, the app replaces the stock Android launcher. It offers a wide range of customization options, including over 10,000 mobile themes, numerous transition effects, and a variety of widgets for functions like weather and battery monitoring. The application was first launched as GO Launcher EX in November 2010.
Sungy Mobile was founded in 2003 by Yuqiang Deng and Xiangdong Zhang. They started with the idea of creating a mobile internet portal for Chinese users, which became 3G.cn. Recognizing the potential of the global Android market, they developed the GO series of products, with GO Launcher as the flagship. The company experienced rapid growth and went public with an IPO on the NASDAQ stock market in November 2013 under the symbol GOMO.
GO Launcher operates on a freemium model. The core application is free to download and use, but it displays advertisements. Revenue is generated through in-app purchases, such as a premium version (Prime) that removes ads and unlocks additional features, including more advanced transition effects. The business model also includes revenue from its app store and game store, which are integrated within the launcher.
The app provides features such as an independently developed 3D engine for smooth graphical effects, app management tools to hide and lock apps, and a system cleaner to boost phone performance. Users can customize icons, folders, menus, and the lock screen interface. Despite its popularity, with over 100 million downloads, the app has faced criticism for its intrusive ads and privacy concerns regarding permissions.
