GMT Robotics, a Danish company established in 2020, is a specialized provider of robotic automation systems for the rebar manufacturing and construction industries. The firm addresses critical sector challenges, including skilled labor shortages, safety requirements, and the demand for increased productivity and precision. It serves clients in global infrastructure and tunneling markets, with a strong presence in regions like Singapore, Australia, and Europe. The business model centers on selling advanced, proprietary robotic hardware and software solutions that automate the handling, welding, and assembly of rebar cages. This approach enables clients, such as rebar shops and concrete construction firms, to engage in offsite prefabrication, which can reduce on-site manpower needs and accelerate construction timelines.
The company's origins are tied to the extensive industry experience of its founders, Ulrich Deichmann and Thomas Dall-Hansen. Deichmann, a co-founder of rebar machinery manufacturer Stema/Pedax, leveraged over 35 years of experience when he started German Machine Trade (GMT) in 2010 to deal in second-hand equipment. Dall-Hansen joined him in 2015, and together they identified a significant opportunity in automating rebar handling and assembly. After extensive research and development that began in 2018, GMT Robotics was formally founded in 2020 and started manufacturing its core products. A significant milestone occurred in December 2024, when the company secured a substantial seed investment from the NEOM Investment Fund, which acquired a minority stake to help scale operations and localize the technology for major construction projects.
GMT Robotics' product portfolio is designed to automate various stages of rebar fabrication. The Dwall ARCAS™ is a patented, fully automated system for producing large, complex 3D reinforcement cages for diaphragm walls and foundations, capable of handling assemblies up to 20 metric tons. For smaller components like beams and columns, the Micro ARCAS™ system allows a single operator to triple productivity by preparing one cage while the robot welds another. Welding solutions include the WeldMate and the larger Mega WeldMate, designed for industrial-scale tasks. The suite is completed by PickMate, a universal robotic picking solution for continuous stirrup production, and the Coupler Buddy, which streamlines rebar handling. These systems can be integrated with BIM models through the company's Planner Software, enhancing workflow from design to production.
