Glass Reinforced Concrete UK Ltd (GRCUK) is a manufacturer and supplier of glass-reinforced concrete (GRC) products for the architectural, civil engineering, and rail industries. The company was established in 2009, initially serving the house-building sector with architectural components. It has since become one of the top three GRC manufacturers in the UK. In March 2014, GRCUK was acquired by Laing O'Rourke, a move intended to bolster Laing O'Rourke's manufacturing portfolio and its Design for Manufacture & Assembly approach. All 38 staff members at the Dinnington, South Yorkshire facility were retained following the acquisition.
GRCUK offers end-to-end services, from project planning and strategy through to material supply, installation, and post-completion reviews. The company's core product is GRC, a composite material made from a cement-rich concrete mix reinforced with alkali-resistant glass fibres. This material is significantly lighter—approximately 80%—than traditional steel-reinforced precast concrete, which reduces structural load, lowers transportation emissions, and simplifies on-site handling. The GRC products can be moulded into complex and bespoke shapes, sizes, and finishes, making them suitable for façade cladding, architectural dressings, walling panels, column claddings, and balcony panels. The firm's manufacturing and testing processes adhere to ISO 9001 quality management standards.
The business model focuses on providing high-quality, custom GRC solutions for major construction projects, working with architects and engineers. GRC's versatility and ability to mimic natural stone visually and texturally are key selling points. The material also offers performance benefits such as lower water permeability and reduced carbonation compared to other precast concretes, which helps in retaining the product's original appearance over time. The use of acrylic polymers in the mix enhances these properties.
