Glamloop operated as an online marketplace specializing in the resale of pre-owned luxury and high-end designer fashion. The company was founded in Munich, Germany, in August 2013 by Alexandra Podeanu and Kiana Mardi. The founders identified a gap in the German market for a curated, service-oriented platform for second-hand designer goods, leading to the creation of Glamloop.
The business model centered on a social e-commerce platform where consumers could buy and sell authenticated designer apparel and accessories. A key service differentiation was the use of fashion consultants who could visit sellers to select items from their wardrobes, manage the online listing, and verify authenticity. This concierge-style approach was designed to offer a convenient and secure process for sellers while providing buyers with confidence in their purchases. The platform generated revenue by facilitating these transactions in the growing market for sustainable fashion and circular economy principles.
Glamloop secured early-stage venture capital on June 20, 2013, from investors including Capnamic Ventures, OP Ventures, and Holtzbrinck Ventures. Despite its efforts to establish a foothold, the company faced direct competition. On August 29, 2014, approximately one year after its launch, Glamloop was acquired by its Hamburg-based competitor, Rebelle (operating as StyleRemains GmbH), in a cash transaction. Following the acquisition, Glamloop's operations and listings were integrated into the Rebelle platform, a strategic move by Rebelle to consolidate its market leadership in Germany and expand its inventory.
