In 1919, Giovanni Bozzetto founded a chemical company in Bergamo, Italy, with a focus on producing auxiliaries for the textile industry. This marked the beginning of what would become the Bozzetto Group. For decades, the company honed its craft in textile chemicals. The first major turning point came in the 1970s when the company began to diversify its product portfolio. The 1980s and 90s marked a period of significant change and internationalization. In the late 1980s, Rütgers acquired a majority stake, a move that accelerated the company's expansion outside of Italy. This was followed by the establishment of new production facilities in Spain, Germany, and Turkey. The company's growth wasn't just geographic; it also expanded into new business lines, including construction and performance chemicals, both organically and through acquisitions. A series of acquisitions defined the company's modern era. In 2017, the private equity firm Chequers Capital acquired a majority stake in the group. This partnership focused on shifting the company's portfolio towards more sustainable, ESG-focused products. The strategy paid off, leading to another significant event in 2023 when Aimia Inc. and Paladin Private Equity acquired Bozzetto for approximately $328 million. Today, Bozzetto operates globally, serving over 1,500 customers in more than 90 countries with a diverse range of specialty chemical solutions.
