Garajyeri, founded in Istanbul, Turkey, in 2014 by Arda Aşkın, began as an online platform for peer-to-peer car rental services. The company's mission was to facilitate a more efficient use of vehicles among Turkish citizens, allowing car owners and renters to connect directly. In its early stages, Garajyeri secured $800,000 in an angel funding round in February 2016, with investors including Hummingbird Ventures and Doga Girisim. This initial capital injection supported its growth in the mobility tech space.
The platform operated by connecting vehicle owners who wanted to earn extra income with individuals needing to rent a car, positioning itself as a key player in Turkey's burgeoning sharing economy. On January 1, 2017, Garajyeri was acquired by Rentiva, a move that integrated its operations into a larger entity with a similar business model. Following the acquisition, the combined entity continued under the Rentiva brand, which was established in Istanbul in 2017. The current CEO of Rentiva is Eren Alkış.
Rentiva functions as a peer-to-peer car-sharing marketplace, connecting a large community of vehicle owners with renters looking for affordable and convenient transportation. The business model is centered on creating a trusted and easy-to-use platform where owners can list their cars for rent, and renters can find suitable vehicles nearby. Revenue is generated from the transactions facilitated through the platform. To ensure security and trust, all rentals are protected by Allianz Kasko Insurance, and all transactions are reported to the KABİS system, a highway information database. Rentiva boasts a significant user base, with over 170,000 registered members and 30,000 vehicles in Istanbul alone as of mid-2024. The company has continued to attract investment, securing ₺11.7 million in a 2024 funding round to fuel its expansion into five new cities across Turkey.
