Fyyne operates as a mobile-first, two-sided marketplace designed to connect beauty artists with customers, streamlining the entire process from discovery and booking to payment. Initially launched to improve the accessibility of Black haircare, the platform provides business management tools for independent barbers and hairstylists to formalize their operations and commercialize their skills. The application allows professionals to create a digital portfolio, manage appointments, and track analytics such as income and client engagement. For customers, it offers a platform to find and book beauty services by filtering through price, distance, and ratings, as well as reading and writing reviews.
Founded in late 2020 by former University of Toronto classmates Jeffrey Fasegha, Olugbenga Olubanjo, and Al-Ameen Ogundiran, Fyyne was created to address the founders' own challenges in finding suitable hair services. Fasegha, a Rhodes Scholar, brought an entrepreneurial background and a focus on using innovation for economic development. The company launched its mobile app in January 2022 after securing pre-seed funding from investors including BKR Capital, Techstars, and Google for Startups. Over time, Fyyne expanded its services beyond Black hair care to include a broader range of beauty services and entered markets in the United States and the United Kingdom.
In the summer of 2023, Fyyne was acquired by Bumpa, a Nigerian e-commerce company, for an undisclosed amount. The acquisition included Fyyne's technology, customer base, and some team members, with the platform continuing to operate as a standalone entity. Following the acquisition, Jeffrey Fasegha transitioned to an advisory role, while his co-founders departed from the company.
