In 1989, three friends, Mike Jaberi, Allen Rezapour, and Mark Mirtorabi, started a small business in Los Angeles. With just a handful of cars, they launched Fox Rent A Car near the Los Angeles airport, aiming to serve budget-conscious travelers. The company began with a single location and focused on offering competitive prices. Through the 90s and early 2000s, Fox steadily grew. They expanded beyond their initial Los Angeles base, first to other Californian cities and then out of state, opening locations at major airports like Phoenix. This careful expansion allowed them to build a presence in key travel hubs across the United States. By focusing on the value segment of the market, they carved out a niche for themselves amongst the larger, more established rental car giants. A significant event in the company's journey occurred in 2019 when Europcar Mobility Group, a major European player, announced it would acquire 100% of Fox Rent A Car. This acquisition provided Europcar with a strategic entry into the large U.S. rental market. For the founders, it marked the culmination of thirty years of building one of the largest independent car rental companies in the country.
