Forget Finance

Forget Finance, operating as Forget X GmbH, was a Berlin-based fintech startup founded in 2020 by Konradin Breyer and Jurek Herwig. The company aimed to simplify financial planning for millennials through a mobile application that combined automated financial advice with access to human experts. The founders' backgrounds were complementary; Breyer previously served as Head of Product at the fitness app Freeletics, while Herwig was the CTO at Neugelb, where he was involved in developing the Commerzbank app. This blend of experience in user engagement from the fitness industry and technical expertise in financial applications shaped the company's approach.

The core of Forget Finance's offering was a financial coaching app launched in December 2021. The product was designed to guide users, particularly those with limited financial knowledge, through setting up savings and investment plans. It featured a hybrid model utilizing an AI-powered chatbot for personalized financial plans and providing on-demand access to human financial coaches for more complex queries. The platform integrated with users' existing bank accounts and initially focused on sustainable wealth management through partnerships with asset managers like Evergreen, offering investments in ETFs and money market funds. The business model included a free basic app, with a subscription fee for access to human coaches. Over time, the company planned to evolve into an all-in-one financial platform by integrating insurance, cryptocurrency investments, and other financial products.

The startup secured a pre-seed round of €700,000 in March 2021 from notable business angels. This was followed by a larger seed funding round of €3.5 million in February 2022, led by venture capital firms btov Partners and UVC Partners, bringing the total capital raised to €4.2 million. In early 2024, Forget Finance shifted its strategic focus to become a savings and investment app specifically for couples, aiming to address issues related to shared finances and tax benefits. Despite this pivot, the company faced challenges. In late 2024, it was announced that Forget Finance would cease operating its app. Its customer base was transferred to its partner Evergreen, and the company's technology and infrastructure were acquired by the wealth-tech firm LIQID. As part of the acquisition, founders Konradin Breyer and Jurek Herwig joined LIQID's management team as Director of Product Strategy and Chief Technology Officer, respectively.
