In 1974, founders John Schock and Rudy Anderson launched FMS Solutions with a clear goal: to give independent retailers the tools they needed to boost efficiency and profits. The company started by providing financial, accounting, and consulting services, steadily growing its client base. For decades, FMS focused on being a crucial partner for independent grocers, helping them navigate a competitive landscape often dominated by larger chains. The company’s mission was to transform routine accounting and payroll tasks into valuable data for decision-making. This focus on turning historical data into actionable insights allowed retailers across the U.S., Canada, and the Caribbean to improve their operations. A significant chapter in the FMS story began in February 2021 when it partnered with New Heritage Capital, a Boston-based private equity firm. This wasn't a typical acquisition; the deal was structured to allow the FMS leadership, including CEO Robert Graybill, to retain operational control while securing capital for growth. This infusion of resources kicked off a series of acquisitions for FMS, including the purchase of retail accounting divisions from C&S Wholesale Grocers in May 2021 and GOT Systems in July 2021. The company continued its expansion by acquiring Retail Financial Services in 2022, adding tax preparation and planning to its suite of services.
