In 1993, a company named Transactive Service Network (TSN) was founded in Hartford, Connecticut. Initially focused on managing HVAC equipment, the firm would later evolve into a comprehensive facilities management provider. The company changed its name to Integrated Process Technologies (IPT) before rebranding as FM Facility Maintenance in October 2008. The business model was straightforward: provide outsourced facility maintenance services for clients with numerous, geographically dispersed locations, such as retail stores and restaurant chains. This involved managing a wide array of trades, including plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and janitorial services, handling a massive volume of service requests annually. In September 2000, a major event occurred when Enron Energy Services acquired IPT to support its own aggressive growth in facility management. Enron invested significantly in the company's infrastructure and processes, building a scalable entity capable of managing over a million client locations. Following this period, FM Facility Maintenance continued to expand, raising $12 million in a Series A funding round in 2010 for strategic acquisitions. This led to the acquisition of US Signs in 2011, bolstering its service offerings. A final significant chapter unfolded on May 17, 2016, when FM Facility Maintenance was acquired by Vixxo, a private equity-backed company. This acquisition marked the culmination of a decades-long journey from a specialized HVAC manager to a major player in the national facility services industry.
