Fitcode operated as a fashion-data company with a focus on solving sizing issues for online denim shoppers. The company was founded in 2014 by Rian Buckley. The inspiration for Fitcode came from Buckley's experience as a fashion model, where she observed how jeans were pinned and altered to fit, and recognized the high volume of returns e-commerce retailers faced due to poor fit.
The company developed a proprietary quiz to help consumers determine their body type and receive personalized denim recommendations. This technology was designed to help women find jeans that flattered their shape, shifting the focus from numerical size to overall fit. Fitcode's service integrated directly onto the websites of partner brands and retailers, offering a tool for shoppers to identify the best-fitting styles and sizes. For its business model, Fitcode charged brands a flat monthly fee to use its fit-finding tool on their e-commerce sites.
The platform's algorithm was built on extensive data, including detailed denim measurements, fabric content analysis, and feedback from fit-testing sessions with diverse groups of women. Fitcode partnered with a number of well-known denim brands, including Hudson Jeans, Jag Jeans, and AG Adriano Goldschmied. The company raised a total of $3.05 million in funding over three rounds, with its last round being a Series A in March 2018. According to PitchBook and Tracxn, the company is no longer in business as of January 2020. Following her time at Fitcode, founder Rian Buckley went on to a role at Amazon Fashion as a Senior Product Manager.
