Finanzen Group represents a complex and evolving financial technology ecosystem, primarily rooted in the German-speaking DACH region. The story involves two main entities that merged and later diverged in ownership, creating a comprehensive financial services provider.
One core component is finanzen.de, a leading European marketplace for consumer leads in the finance and insurance sectors. This platform connects online customers with experts like insurance brokers and financial advisors, operating a business model based on generating and selling high-quality leads. In November 2021, this Finanzen Group was acquired by the insurtech company CLARK, creating a combined entity valued as a unicorn. The transaction was structured as a share-for-share exchange, making CLARK's largest minority shareholder Allianz X, which was the previous owner of Finanzen Group. This strategic integration aimed to cover the entire customer journey, from initial product research to insurance management.
The other major entity is the finanzen.net Group, which originated with the financial portal finanzen.net, founded in 2000 by Jens Ohr and Peter Schille. Initially part of Smarthouse GmbH, it was spun off as a separate company in 2010 and subsequently acquired by media conglomerate Axel Springer. Under Axel Springer, it grew into Germany's leading financial information portal, providing real-time market data, news, and analysis on a wide range of asset classes for private investors. The group expanded its services significantly, launching the neobroker finanzen.net ZERO in March 2021 following the acquisition of Gratisbroker. This service allows users to trade stocks, ETFs, and cryptocurrencies with zero order fees. The ecosystem also includes TraderFox, a trading software platform for more experienced retail investors. In a major shift, private equity firm Inflexion, in partnership with the founders, acquired the finanzen.net Group from Axel Springer in a transaction completed in January 2025. This move established the finanzen.net Group as a fully integrated, standalone company focused on expanding its brokerage and investment product offerings.
