Filmmakers Mart is a digital marketplace designed to address logistical challenges in Africa's film and entertainment industry. Initially launched as Recce Solutions in 2021 focusing solely on location scouting, the company evolved into a comprehensive, end-to-end platform for video production needs. The platform connects filmmakers, creatives, and entertainment businesses with a wide array of verified services. These services are categorized into locations, logistics (including transport, accommodation, and equipment rental), permits, and a database for hiring cast and crew.
The company was founded by Eric Kafui Okyerefo (CEO), Chioma Paul-Dike (Product Lead), Igho Arusi (Operations Lead), and Victor Awotidebe (Engineering Lead). The founders, who are filmmakers themselves, met at the MultiChoice Talent Factory in 2019 and were inspired by their own frustrating experiences with the fragmented and unreliable production landscape in Africa. For instance, Chioma Paul-Dike's decision to co-found the company was solidified after a location owner cancelled a pre-paid booking on the day of a shoot, forcing the entire crew to scramble for a new location.
Filmmakers Mart operates on a B2B2C model, allowing service providers to list their offerings on the platform where filmmakers and content producers can browse and book them securely.
