In 1987, two pioneers, Dr. Freddie Graham and Dr. Richard Fisher, established Fertility Associates, New Zealand's first private infertility clinic. Having already introduced IVF to the country in the early 1980s while at National Women's Hospital, they saw the need for a dedicated private practice to meet growing demand and advance the science. Their new entity, Fertility Associates, quickly became the national leader in reproductive medicine. The company methodically built its reputation by introducing new technologies to the region, including embryo freezing and egg freezing. This focus on scientific advancement and patient care established a strong foundation. The business expanded beyond its Auckland headquarters, setting up clinics in major centers and even extending its operations to Malaysia. A pivotal moment arrived in December 2021 when the company pursued a significant capital event. A consortium comprising the NZ Super Fund, Pioneer Capital, and Comprador Holdings acquired a 70% stake in the business. The remaining 30% was retained by the company's doctors and management, ensuring continuity. This transaction provided a major injection of capital and strategic expertise, positioning Fertility Associates for its next phase of growth, with a focus on expanding its services across the Asia-Pacific region.
