Facet Solutions, Inc., founded in 2003, specialized in developing surgical devices to treat facet-related spinal disorders. The company’s primary offering was an anatomic facet joint reconstruction device, providing a motion-preservation alternative to lumbar spinal fusion for patients with lumbar spinal stenosis and facet degeneration. Its portfolio was headlined by the ACADIA™, an unconstrained pedicle screw-based total facet replacement system. This system was designed to replace diseased facet joints with an anatomic implant to restore natural motion, stability, and balance in the lumbar spine.
In 2009, Facet Solutions acquired certain assets from Archus Orthopaedics, significantly strengthening its intellectual property portfolio with over 100 patents and applications focused on posterior motion preservation technology. The company was venture-backed, with investors including De Novo Ventures, Pequot Ventures, and Spray Venture Partners. On January 10, 2011, Globus Medical, Inc. acquired substantially all of the assets of Facet Solutions. At the time of the acquisition, Facet Solutions was headquartered in Hopkinton, Massachusetts, and its ACADIA™ system was in a Phase III IDE study in the United States and had seen limited release in the European Union.
