Exco InTouch, founded in 2004 by Tim Davis, specialized in patient engagement and electronic data capture (eCOA) for the clinical research industry. The company developed mobile-first technologies to enhance communication between pharmaceutical companies, clinical research organizations (CROs), and patients participating in clinical trials. Its core offerings included tools for patient recruitment, electronic patient-reported outcomes (ePRO), and long-term patient management, aiming to improve data quality, increase patient retention, and accelerate clinical development timelines. The platform supported a bring-your-own-device (BYOD) model, allowing patients to use their own smartphones to participate in studies, which was a significant feature at the time.
In 2016, Exco InTouch was acquired by ERT (eResearchTechnology, Inc.), a global provider of clinical endpoint data collection solutions. The acquisition was a strategic move by ERT to combine its own eCOA offerings with Exco InTouch's expertise in patient engagement and mobile technology. Tim Davis, the founder and CEO of Exco InTouch, transitioned to the role of President and CEO of the combined ERT entity following the merger, before later stepping down. Following the acquisition, the Exco InTouch brand and its technologies were integrated into ERT's product suite. ERT itself later merged with Bioclinica in 2021 to form a new company called Clario, which continues to provide clinical trial technology solutions.
