Everest Education (E2) operates in Vietnam's supplemental education market, providing after-school learning programs for students from Grade 1 to 12. Founded in 2011 by Tony Ngo and Don Le, the company aims to equip students for the demands of international academic environments. The founders' personal histories are central to the company's mission; having benefited from world-class educations at Stanford and Harvard, Ngo and Le seek to bring similar transformative learning experiences to students in Vietnam.
Tony Ngo brought a decade-and-a-half of experience from Wall Street, including roles in investment banking at Morgan Stanley and fund management at Bridger Capital, before leaving finance in 2015 to focus on Everest Education. Don Le's background includes management consulting with Bain & Company and investment experience with Red Mountain Capital, followed by building several businesses in Vietnam's finance, technology, and consumer sectors after moving to the country in 2007.
The company's business model centers on a network of learning centers in Ho Chi Minh City and partnerships with schools, offering a blend of offline and online instruction. Revenue is generated from fees for its various courses. E2 targets academically ambitious students and their families, a significant market in a country where households may spend up to 40% of their disposable income on education. In August 2019, the company secured US$4 million in a Series B funding round led by Hendale Capital, with participation from Viet Capital Ventures and Nullabor, to expand its physical learning centers.
Everest Education's core service is a proprietary blended learning approach that combines technology with traditional instruction to personalize the educational experience for each student. This methodology was developed after studying various models and is advised by blended learning expert Michael Horn, who is also a board member. The curriculum includes Math and English enrichment, Singapore Math, test preparation, private tutoring, and college admissions consulting. Additionally, E2 offers STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) and design thinking camps, available through its learning centers, partner schools, and online platforms.
