Eutecus

Founded in 2002, Eutecus, Inc. operated as a technology company specializing in embedded software and multi-core processors for video analytics. The firm was co-founded by Dr. Csaba Rekeczky, who also served as its CEO and President. Dr. Rekeczky holds an M.Sc. in electrical engineering and a Ph.D. in neuromorphic information technology, with a background in researching massively parallel algorithms and cellular multi-core architectures for applications like medical imaging, security, and surveillance.

Eutecus developed cross-platform embedded software that enabled real-time, multi-channel image processing and parallel event detection. Its core product was a computer vision technology based on an FPGA chip solution, which allowed for the high-speed digital processing of video feeds directly on a device without needing to transmit data to central computers. This technology was positioned for the Internet of Things (IoT) market, particularly in intelligent lighting systems where video cameras in light fixtures collect and process data for applications such as traffic control, parking assistance, retail analytics, and security. The company's business model involved providing these embedded vision IP products to the industrial and automotive IoT markets. Key clients included chip manufacturers, which gave Eutecus direct insight into customer needs in high-value sectors.

Headquartered in Berkeley, California, Eutecus also maintained a subsidiary in Budapest, Hungary. The company secured funding from investors including Euroventures and the Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer Programs. In July 2016, Eutecus was acquired by Sensity Systems, a provider of IoT platforms for smart cities. This merger was a strategic move to integrate Eutecus's video analytics technology into Sensity's NetSense platform. Shortly after, in late 2016, Sensity Systems, along with Eutecus, was acquired by Verizon Communications.
