The European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA) is a key body of the European Commission, established on April 1, 2021. It was created to manage the funding and implementation of various large-scale European Union programs. HaDEA operates under the guidance of several Commission Directorates-General, including Health and Food Safety (SANTE), Research and Innovation (RTD), Communications Networks, Content and Technology (CNECT), Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs (GROW), and Defence Industry and Space (DEFIS).
The agency's primary function is to build a strong European Health Union and to foster the digital transformation of Europe's industry and economy. It manages a significant portfolio of programs for the 2021-2027 period, including the EU4Health programme, the Digital Europe Programme, Horizon Europe's Cluster 1 (Health) and Cluster 4 (Digital, Industry and Space), the Connecting Europe Facility (Digital), and the Single Market Programme (Food Safety). HaDEA works closely with its parent Directorates-General to execute the EU's vision of creating a healthy society and a competitive digital economy, from terrestrial applications to space.
