The story begins in 1989, when Daniel Guez founded a company in Aix-en-Provence, France, initially focused on building sports facilities. By 1994, the company pivoted, installing its first mobile homes and launching the Homair Vacances brand. This set the stage for a journey of strategic expansion. A key turning point came in 2006 when private equity firm Montefiore Investment took a stake, followed by an IPO in 2007. This new phase fueled a series of acquisitions. The group acquired Al Fresco in 2011, followed by the major purchase of European competitor Eurocamp in 2014. That same year, The Carlyle Group acquired a majority stake, and the company was delisted from the stock market. Now a private entity with significant backing, the acquisition strategy continued, adding Dutch brands Roan and Go4Camp in 2016. Reflecting its expanded international footprint, Homair Group officially rebranded as European Camping Group (ECG) in 2017. The growth playbook was clear: consolidate the fragmented European outdoor holiday market. This strategy culminated in a major event in 2023 with the €1 billion acquisition of the Vacanceselect group, a move that made ECG the largest provider of outdoor accommodation in Europe. Having been acquired by PAI Partners in 2021, the group's journey continued in March 2025, when PAI Partners sold a significant minority stake to the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA) to support the next phase of growth.
