Eureciclo operates as a socio-environmental impact business, focusing on structuring Brazil's recycling chain. The company, created by New Hope Ecotech, connects consumer goods companies with a network of recycling operators and collectors' organizations to facilitate reverse logistics for post-consumer packaging. Its business model centers on the concept of environmental compensation, where companies offset the environmental impact of their packaging. Revenue is generated through the sale of these Recycling Certificates, with Eureciclo taking a commission on the transaction, while the remainder is passed to the recycling operators, providing them with an additional income stream beyond the sale of materials. The company also generates revenue from subscription-based plans.
The company's core service is the certification of this reverse logistics process. It employs a proprietary technology platform, which includes blockchain, to track invoices and other documents from the recycling chain, ensuring the traceability and transparency of the entire operation. This provides corporate clients with a legally sound method to comply with Brazil's National Solid Waste Policy (PNRS). For their clients, Eureciclo offers the "eureciclo seal," a consumer-facing symbol that brands can display on their packaging to communicate their commitment to recycling, a feature recognized and trusted by over 75% of consumers. The client base is extensive, serving over 7,000 companies across Brazil and also operating in Chile.
The concept for Eureciclo originated in 2014 with founder Thiago Carvalho Pinto, then an MBA student at Northwestern Kellogg School of Management, who saw an opportunity in Brazil's low recycling rates. In 2015, New Hope Ecotech was formally established, and by 2016, the eureciclo seal was launched as a consolidated solution. A significant milestone occurred in 2018 when New Hope Ecotech became a signatory of the Reverse Logistics Commitment Term (TCLR) for the state of São Paulo. The company has demonstrated significant growth, raising over USD 30 million in funding. A Series B funding round in June 2022, led by Oria Capital, secured BRL 100 million (approximately $20 million USD) to invest in recycling infrastructure. The company has certified the correct destination of over 1.5 million tons of waste and funneled over R$92 million to recycling operators.
