ePoultry.ng is a Nigerian Agrifin-tech platform founded in 2019 by Anthony Owei, Kingsley Owei, Zumah Yahaya, and Yvette Nzeji. The company aims to bridge the gap between farmers and consumers by providing smallholder poultry farmers with access to funding, technical skills, and premium markets. Simultaneously, it offers a platform for individuals to remotely invest in poultry farming.
Founder and CEO Anthony Owei's journey into agriculture was inspired by the 2011 East African drought he witnessed while in Kenya. This experience highlighted the issue of food insecurity and led him to establish Tonyve Farms in 2014, a poultry company in Bayelsa State. The challenges he faced with his own farm, particularly in accessing finance and markets, motivated him to create a solution to address these inefficiencies for other smallholder farmers, leading to the birth of ePoultry.ng. Owei has a background in International Business Administration and Finance and was recognized as an Obama Foundation Leader in 2019 for his work.
The company operates a B2B marketplace and a data platform that leverages data analytics and cloud computing. It provides financial institutions with data-driven insights to facilitate input funding for agribusinesses, thereby promoting financial inclusion. For farmers, the platform creates digital financial records of their business operations and sales data, which can be used to secure financing. The business model generates revenue by taking a percentage of the profits shared between farmers and investors and also charges a management fee on profits from farm sponsors. The platform has successfully attracted funding, including a seed round of $50K in June 2023 led by The Baobab Network.
