In 2005, a company called VocalEZ was founded in Nashville by Alexander Poston. Its mission was to solve a growing problem for physicians: the time-consuming burden of clinical documentation. The company developed a mobile application that allowed doctors to dictate patient notes, which were then transcribed and fed directly into electronic health records (EHRs). This workflow was designed to save doctors time and streamline their daily tasks. In 2010, the company rebranded as Entrada and brought in Bill Brown to take over as CEO. With new leadership and fresh capital from investors like Claritas Capital and Clayton Associates, Entrada focused on integrating its mobile platform with all major EHR systems. This strategy aimed to make its software an indispensable part of a physician's workflow, regardless of the primary EHR system a clinic or hospital used. A significant turning point came in April 2017 when NextGen Healthcare, a major player in the health information systems space, announced its acquisition of Entrada. The all-cash deal was valued at approximately $34 million. For NextGen, the acquisition was a strategic move to enhance its mobile capabilities and address the critical issue of physician burnout by simplifying documentation. For Entrada, the acquisition by a larger entity provided the resources to accelerate its mission of improving caregiver productivity and allowing them to focus more on patient care.
