Enerqos, legally known as Enerqos Energy Solutions S.r.l., is an Italian Energy Service Company (ESCo) established in 2006, specializing in energy efficiency and renewable energy solutions. The company was founded in the spring of 2006 by Giorgio Pucci along with five friends, all entrepreneurs with established professional backgrounds, who aimed to create a technological-industrial hub in Tuscany. Pucci, an electronic engineering graduate from the University of Pisa, brought extensive experience from leadership roles at Texas Instruments, Nokia, and Bull, as well as in finance as the Chairman and CEO of Dun & Bradstreet. The company's name, a blend of "Energy" and "Quality of Services," reflects its mission.
Operating from its headquarters in Milan, Enerqos functions as a certified ESCo (UNI CEI 11352:2014), providing customized, turnkey solutions to reduce energy costs for its clients. The company serves a diverse client base across sectors such as agriculture, banking, healthcare, hospitality, logistics, education, real estate, and retail. Its business model involves designing, financing, managing, and creating high-tech installations without requiring an initial investment from the customer; instead, Enerqos shares in the future savings generated by the efficiency improvements. The company's service portfolio is extensive, covering the design and installation of photovoltaic plants, lighting solutions, gas and biomass boilers, cogeneration and refrigeration systems, electric motors, and inverters. Additionally, Enerqos provides operations and maintenance (O&M) services, including energy consumption data analysis, feasibility studies, project implementation, and energy solution monitoring. One of its offerings is the Smart O&M service, which bundles maintenance with insurance against natural disasters like hail.
A significant milestone in the company's history was its entry into the Photovoltaic (PV) EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) market, spurred by the Italian Parliament's establishment of the Energy Account in 2006. This led to rapid growth, with the company building over 130 MWp of photovoltaic plants in Italy. In 2020, Enerqos formed a strategic partnership with Aquila Group, a German asset manager, which acquired a 37% stake and led to the creation of the Zero Emission Buildings (ZEB) business unit. A pivotal development occurred in March 2023, when Enerqos was acquired by Ameresco, Inc., a U.S.-based cleantech integrator. This acquisition was aimed at expanding Ameresco's footprint in Europe while strengthening Enerqos' position in the Italian market.
