Educapital is a Colombian edu-fintech company founded in 2021 that provides a digital platform for the administrative and financial management of educational institutions. The company focuses on four core components: cash flow, collections management, payment processing, and document management. Its business model involves purchasing the economic obligations of parents from schools at a discount, thereby providing the institutions with upfront capital and handling the subsequent collection and payment processing. This service aims to optimize administrative processes, reduce operating costs, improve overdue portfolio indicators, and strengthen the relationship between schools and parents.
The company was founded to address the constant cash flow challenges faced by schools and educational institutions in Colombia. One of the partners and managers, Andrea Ramírez, stated that Educapital is the result of 15 years of work and understanding the difficulties within the educational sector. In August 2023, Educapital closed a Series A funding round of $5 million. This investment was made through a private equity fund supervised by the Colombian Financial Superintendence, with investors including Global Seguros de Vida, who also provide strategic support. The funding is intended to strengthen and expand its operations, offering customized solutions to more schools. Currently, the company serves over 18 schools, benefiting more than 6,000 families.
