Edge Pathways

Edge Pathways was established in 2020 as an education technology company with a mission to widen access to engineering degrees for a diverse range of students. The company was founded in New York by Dan Sommer, David Berger, Jamie Farrell, and Ahmed Haque. This team possessed a significant track record in the edtech sector, having previously founded Trilogy Education, a digital skills provider that was acquired by 2U for $750 million in 2019.

The business model centered on collaborating with university partners to offer a for-credit freshman year program for aspiring engineering students. The curriculum was designed to be industry-aligned and project-based, exploring all first-year subjects, from chemistry to composition, through the lens of real-world applications. Upon completion of this initial year, students gained access to a transfer network of colleges to continue their studies. The program was structured to provide students with mentorship, on-demand tutoring, and access to internship and co-op opportunities, aiming to improve educational outcomes and long-term career prospects while addressing the high costs of traditional education.

In March 2021, Edge Pathways secured $8 million in a seed funding round. The investment was co-led by First Round Capital, Emerge Education, and Rethink Education, with the capital intended to expand operations. Despite its experienced leadership and initial funding, public records from 2024 indicate the company is now out of business.
