Early Childhood Alliance (ECA) is a non-profit organization focused on providing access to quality early childhood care and education in northern Indiana. Initially incorporated in 1953 as part of the Fort Wayne Community Chest, the agency shifted its focus entirely to childcare in 1969. A significant milestone was the development of the Paths to QUALITY rating system in 2000, which assesses and improves early childhood education programs and was adopted statewide by Indiana in 2008.
The organization's mission is to foster a strong community by supporting equitable access to quality services. It operates as a resource and referral agency, providing coaching, training, and support to a wide network of childcare homes, centers, and ministries. ECA manages two learning centers, in Fort Wayne and Warsaw, that provide a curriculum-based educational environment to prepare children for kindergarten. One of its key initiatives is the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), which for over 40 years has provided guidance and reimbursement to providers to ensure children receive nutritious meals. In 2021, ECA launched the Shared Services Network to help childcare providers with administrative tasks and business growth.
