E-Land Retail is the distribution and retail arm of the South Korean conglomerate, E-Land Group. The company operates a chain of department stores and outlets, including NC Department Store, NewCore Outlet, and 2001 Outlet, as well as Kim's Club hypermarkets. Its core business revolves around fashion, offering a wide array of products such as menswear, womenswear, children's clothing, and accessories under various in-house and licensed brands.
The parent company, E-Land Group, was founded by Park Sung-su in 1980, starting as a small 6-square-meter clothing shop called "England" near Ewha Womans University in Seoul. Park, along with his sister Park Sung-kyung, established the E-Land corporate body in 1986. The group expanded into the distribution business in 1994, opening Korea's first urban outlet, the "2001 Outlet". A significant milestone was the 2003 acquisition of New Core, a department store operator, which solidified its position in the retail market. E-Land Retail itself was founded in 1994 and has since become a major player in the South Korean retail landscape.
The business model focuses on offering a diverse range of consumer goods through its physical retail channels. E-Land Retail is also the operator of the popular shoe brand Shoopen. The group has a significant international presence, particularly in China, where it has integrated its operations for brands like SPAO and holds the sales license for New Balance Kids. The company has successfully localized global brands, such as New Balance, significantly boosting their sales in the Korean market through strategic marketing and by operating stores directly. In recent years, E-Land Group has appointed younger executives to lead its retail and food affiliates to drive online expansion and innovation.
