The story of Dynex Semiconductor begins in Lincoln, England, over 60 years ago, when it was founded as AEI Semiconductors Ltd in 1957. The company was a pioneer, introducing some of the world's first silicon-based power semiconductor components. Over the decades, Dynex grew by acquiring the power semiconductor interests of major names like GEC, Marconi Electronic Devices, and Alstom, solidifying its expertise in high-power electronics. These devices are crucial for managing and converting electrical power in demanding industries such as rail transportation, power grids, and aerospace. A pivotal chapter in the company’s history began in 2008 when the Chinese manufacturer Zhuzhou CRRC Times Electric acquired a 75% stake in Dynex Power. This move provided Dynex with significant investment and a crucial entry point into the burgeoning Chinese market. The acquisition focused on leveraging Dynex's advanced technology in Insulated-Gate Bipolar Transistors (IGBTs), a key component for modern electronics. The relationship culminated in March 2019, when CRRC Times Electric acquired all remaining shares, making Dynex a wholly-owned subsidiary and completing its transition from a publicly-traded company on the TSX Venture Exchange to a private entity.
