Dribo is a digital driving school platform founded in Barcelona, Spain, in 2017 by Enric Romero and Manu Caldas. The company developed a mobile application that digitizes the process of obtaining a driver's license, targeting a primary audience of 17 to 24-year-olds, as well as those aged 30-40 seeking more flexibility than traditional driving schools offer. Romero, the CEO, identified an opportunity to modernize what was often seen as a lengthy and costly process by adapting it to a digital-first user base.
The business operates through a mobile app that provides all the necessary theoretical content and over 3,000 official DGT (Dirección General de Tráfico) test questions to prepare users for the written exam. The app personalizes the learning experience using data to adapt to each user's progress. For the practical portion, Dribo functions as a marketplace, connecting students with Dribo-affiliated driving instructors and partner driving schools for on-road lessons, which can be booked and managed through the app. This digital model allows Dribo to offer its services at a significant cost reduction compared to traditional schools.
Since starting operations in January 2018, the company has expanded its services across Spain. Dribo secured early funding, including a €250,000 round in 2018 to fuel its national expansion and enhance its platform, which included investors like Antai Ventures and public capital from ENISA. By late 2018, after establishing a user base in Barcelona, the company launched in Madrid and announced plans to expand to other major Spanish cities. The company's platform handles the entire administrative process, from studying for the theory test to managing documentation and scheduling exams.
