Draker, a former provider of performance monitoring and data management systems for the renewable energy sector, was founded in 1999. The company specialized in developing customized, hardware-integrated web applications that provided solar photovoltaic (PV) monitoring solutions, enabling enterprises to manage the efficiency and profitability of their solar assets. Its clients ranged from individual system owners to developers, asset managers, and utilities, with installations varying in size from kilowatts to over 30 megawatts.
Throughout its history, Draker underwent several strategic shifts. In August 2012, the company merged with Solar Power Technologies Inc. (SPTI) and simultaneously raised $8 million in an equity round led by Austin Ventures. The merged entity continued under the Draker name, aiming to combine Draker's asset management platform with SPTI's DC monitoring and optimization technology. Following a failed merger with Inaccess in 2015, Draker was acquired by BlueNRGY Group Limited, which continued operations from Draker's Burlington, Vermont location.
A significant milestone occurred in July 2018 when AlsoEnergy acquired the assets of Draker, including its intellectual property and customer lists. This acquisition was part of a larger consolidation move by AlsoEnergy, which also merged with Germany's skytron energy. Following the acquisition, Draker's customers and their data were migrated to AlsoEnergy's PowerTrack platform. Subsequently, in a major industry transaction, AlsoEnergy was itself acquired by Stem (NYSE: STEM), a global leader in AI-driven energy storage software, for $695 million. This final acquisition, completed in February 2022, integrated AlsoEnergy's solar asset management capabilities with Stem's energy storage optimization software, creating a comprehensive solution for solar and storage projects.
