Doorsey operated as a software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform tailored for the residential real estate market, with a focus on creating a more transparent offer process. The company was founded in early 2021 by Jordan Allen, Nick McLain, and Matt Melville. Allen, who served as CEO, drew inspiration from the classic car auction market, aiming to apply a similar level of transparency regarding an asset's condition to home sales. This venture followed his previous role as founder of the vacation rental company Stay Alfred, which ceased operations in 2020.
The firm, originally named Ruumr, was based in Spokane Valley, Washington, and aimed to modernize real estate transactions. In November 2021, Doorsey secured $4.1 million in a seed funding round with participation from investors such as 166 2nd Financial Services, Liquid 2 Ventures, and Agya Ventures. This capital supported the platform's development and market entry. The company's core product was a white-label online bidding platform that real estate agents and brokerages could integrate directly into their own websites without needing a developer. This tool was designed to manage the entire offer process, from listing to closing, in a centralized location.
Doorsey's platform provided prospective buyers with comprehensive upfront information, including third-party inspection reports, seller disclosures, and 3D virtual tours, allowing them to bid with more confidence. A key feature was the transparent, auction-style bidding process where all offers were visible, enabling buyers to see competing bids in real-time and eliminating the guesswork common in traditional negotiations. The system also facilitated communication through a forum for buyer questions and provided real-time notifications to all parties. For real estate professionals, the platform offered lead capture tools and analytics on client behavior and listing trends. On May 18, 2023, Doorsey was acquired by Auction.io, a Dallas-based provider of e-commerce and online auction technology. The acquisition followed a period of collaboration between the two companies, with Doorsey already utilizing some of Auction.io's technology. Following the acquisition, Jordan Allen joined the board of Auction.io.
