Distaff
Social media and ecommerce.
Distaff operated a social media marketplace application focused on fashion e-commerce, which has since ceased operations as of December 16, 2023. The platform was designed for fashion enthusiasts to purchase items from their favorite brands or to design, manufacture, and sell their own apparel.
The core of Distaff's offering was an application that allowed users to follow friends, designers, and companies to discover new fashion items. It provided a comprehensive suite of tools for aspiring designers, including a design interface, along with outsourced manufacturing and distribution services. This model aimed to empower individuals to create and sell their own clothing lines directly through the platform, which also incorporated sales and marketing channel support. For established brands and designers, the app served as a tool to enhance customer interaction and showcase new collections.
Initially working on the project alone for two years, the original founder was later joined by Zack Light as a Co-Founder. Light, a Software Development Engineer with Amazon's AWS division, was brought on to advance the mission of making the fashion world more accessible. The company was formerly backed by an accelerator or incubator program and had reached a revenue-generating stage before it went out of business.
