DIR Technologies develops and supplies thermography-based inspection solutions for quality assurance and process control in the packaging industry. The company was founded in 2009 by Eran Sinbar and Yoav Weinstein and is located in Haifa, Israel. It originated as a spin-off from SCD – SemiConductor Devices, a prominent manufacturer of advanced infrared sensors. DIR Technologies is jointly owned by Israeli defense firms Rafael Advanced Defense Systems and Elbit Systems, along with the Israeli-American fund SCP Vitalife.
The company's core technology applies thermal imaging, originally developed for the defense sector, to provide 100% in-line, non-intrusive inspection of packaging seals without causing production slowdowns. Its flagship product, the Induction Integrity Verification System (I2VS), is designed for the pharmaceutical industry to ensure sealing integrity for primary packaging and won the ACHEMA 2015 Innovation Award. The system identifies the source of potential faulty seals in real-time, allowing for immediate adjustments and process control. DIR Technologies entered into a five-year agreement with Pfizer, which adopted the inspection technology on select packaging lines.
Expanding beyond pharmaceuticals, the company developed the I²VS Lite, a more modular and economically viable version for industries like food, cosmetics, and chemicals. Another product, the DIR Eye, focuses on monitoring heat sealing processes and has applications in the food and beverage, cosmetics, and medical device packaging sectors. The business model centers on selling these specialized inspection systems to packaging companies, serving tier-one clients globally through direct sales, pilots, and trials.
