In 1994, in Mainz, Germany, a group of eight founders launched DILAS Diodenlaser with a clear vision: to harness the power and efficiency of high-power diode lasers for industrial applications. They focused on developing and manufacturing high-brightness semiconductor laser components, modules, and systems. This technology was essential for industries ranging from medical and materials processing to defense and graphic arts. The company's trajectory shifted just three years later. In 1997, DILAS was integrated into the global Rofin-Sinar group, which acquired a majority stake in the burgeoning laser specialist. This move provided DILAS with the resources to expand its reach and accelerate the development of new diode-based laser systems. The company established a presence in North America in 2005 and in China in 2008 to serve growing international markets. A more significant change came in 2016 when Rofin-Sinar itself was acquired by the American laser giant, Coherent Inc. This made DILAS part of a much larger, vertically integrated photonics company. Initially, the company operated under a co-branded Coherent-DILAS name, but by 2019, it was fully integrated under the Coherent brand, marking the end of the DILAS name as a standalone entity but cementing its technology's place within a market leader.
